Most of the time, I live in Forest Grove, at the foot of the coast range in Northwestern Oregon. I sometimes spend summers away with my daughter Fiona, in Greece or Michigan or Ireland, and I sometimes make extended stays abroad with my partner Kate, who is an artist and researcher from Brighton in the U.K. I still have the small, off-grid cabin that I built years ago, with the help of six friends, deep in the forests of upper Michigan. I take sojourns there when it seems the thing to do.
When I'm not away, or in the office, I can often be found at a local pub, arguing with philosophers, writers, and scientists, or hiking and foraging in the coast range with my dog, Murdoch, or my young sons, Hazen and Irial. I still play a bit of piano, and sometimes casually compose or record. I occasionally surf. Most days I'm a Wittgensteinian and an Aristotelian. Every now and then I still play go. I read a lot. I'm susceptible to bouts of existentialism. I run linux. My Erdos number is six. I don't have a phone.
If you'd like to contact me, I can be reached at my gmail account, which is just ian.m.oloughlin.
